Pulaski County district denied unitary status

By The Associated Press

This article was published December 10, 2012 at 1:41 p.m.

— A federal judge has denied the Pulaski County School District’s request to be declared substantially desegregated, but says he’s open to holding hearings on the matter next fall.

U.S. District Judge D.P. Marshall on Monday denied the district’s request to be declared partially unitary and to be released from federal court supervision. The district first petitioned for unitary status in 2007, but a judge denied that request in 2011.

Marshall said the district should file a status report by Feb. 1 based on more complete information about its efforts to be unitary in areas such as student assignment and special education.

Marshall wrote that he’s amenable to holding short hearings on the matter in August and September.

The North Little Rock and Little Rock districts have already been declared unitary.

Dollars being spent for this nonsense is unreal.. Millions of taxpayers dollars that could have been spent more wisely say on teachers's salaries is instead being spent on a relic of the Civil Rights era. Who is really benefiting other than the lawyers.

What are they supposed to do? (the school district) Wait for more blacks, white, hispanics, asians, Indians to be birthed or imported? Idiots. This whole thing is a sham. It was needed at one time 35 years ago, but now has become a money pit for lawyers to draw upon.
