LITTLE ROCK A federal judge has denied the Pulaski County School District’s request to be declared substantially desegregated, but says he’s open to holding hearings on the matter next fall.
U.S. District Judge D.P. Marshall on Monday denied the district’s request to be declared partially unitary and to be released from federal court supervision. The district first petitioned for unitary status in 2007, but a judge denied that request in 2011.
Marshall said the district should file a status report by Feb. 1 based on more complete information about its efforts to be unitary in areas such as student assignment and special education.
Marshall wrote that he’s amenable to holding short hearings on the matter in August and September.
The North Little Rock and Little Rock districts have already been declared unitary.
