UAMS to open dentistry clinic

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is now taking patient appointments for its general dentistry clinic opening Jan. 7.

The UAMS Oral Health Clinic features five exam rooms with the latest dental technology and offers comprehensive dental services including crowns, dentures/partials, fillings, endodontic therapy, implants, hygiene services and whitening/cosmetic services, the university said in a news release.

Keith David Stillwell, who joined the UAMS faculty in September as director of the clinical and residency programs in the Center for Dental Education, will provide dental care to patients in the clinic.

UAMS said the center is working toward accreditation for postgraduate residency programs in advanced general dentistry and oral surgery. Its goal is to begin accepting dental residents, who will further their clinical experience by providing dental services, by 2014. It also plans to add 10 additional exam rooms by that time.

“Educating dental residents on our campus will encourage their future careers in Arkansas and will increase the number of dentists beginning their careers in the state,” Stillwell said in a statement.

The clinic's hours are Mondays from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 7 a.m. to noon.
