Main Street Arkansas tapped Greg Phillips as its new director, Arkansas Historic Preservation Program Director Frances McSwain announced Wednesday.

Phillips, a 15-year veteran of the downtown Little Rock development program, succeeds Cary Tyson, who was promoted to deputy director of the preservation program.

Phillips has been the program’s assistant director since 1997 and has been “a key player in working with the 17 Main Street Arkansas communities and the 12 cities in the Arkansas Downtown Network,” McSwain said in a statement.

Before joining Main Street Arkansas, the 1987 Ouachita Baptist University graduate worked as the public relations director for the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

Main Street Arkansas provides technical assistance and design services to aid economic development in the downtown areas of Batesville, Blytheville, Dumas, El Dorado, Eureka Springs, Hardy, Helena, Little Rock's South Main Street area, Osceola, Ozark, Paragould, Rogers, Russellville, Searcy, Siloam Springs, Texarkana and West Memphis, the preservation program said.

The 12 members of Main Street's Arkansas Downtown Network are Arkadelphia, Clarksville, DeWitt, Fort Smith, Heber Springs, Jonesboro, Monticello, Morrilton, Pine Bluff, Rector, Warren and Wynne.

The Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission also sponsor the Main Street Arkansas program.
