Little Rock man accused of trying to run over officer

— A Little Rock man is accused of trying to run over a police officer while fleeing from authorities who were working to arrest him as part of an undercover drug operation.

Willie D. Aikens Jr., 42, is facing charges including criminal attempt to commit capital murder, aggravated assault and possession of marijuana with intent to deal.

Aikens was arrested Wednesday night after a car chase that ended at his home, 4123 W. 10th St., about 8:45 p.m., police records show.

Aikens was ordered held in lieu of $35,000 bond during an initial video appearance in Little Rock District Court on Thursday morning.

Prosecutors said during the brief hearing that Aikens took control of 24 pounds of marijuana during a controlled delivery by authorities as part of an undercover drug operation.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents and Little Rock officers then followed him to a Wal-Mart parking lot, where they attempted to approach his vehicle to make an arrest, officials said at the hearing.

At that point, Aikens took off, trying to run over an agent as he did so, prosecutors said.
