State police investigate officer-involved shooting in Phillips County

Special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are are investigating a shooting that involved a law enforcement officer Friday night in Phillips County.

Darryl Vance Parker, 50, of Elaine, was shot by officers after using his truck to hit Arkansas State Trooper Jason Martin.

At about 10:30 p.m., Arkansas Game and Fish wildlife officers along with Martin attempted to stop Parker on Phillips County Road 350 west of Barton, officers reported. Officers were stopping Parker on suspicion that he had been night hunting. Parker fled from the officers and drove into a wheat field. Martin then approached Parker's truck on foot. Parker then moved the truck and hit Martin, who was knocked to the ground, but made his way back to the driver's side door to attempt to take Parker into custody.

Parker used the truck to hit Martin again, who was knocked down as wildlife officers fired their weapons at the cab of the truck, hitting Parker, an Arkansas State Police news release states.

Parker was pronounced dead at the scene. Martin is recovering at a Memphis hospital and is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
