Inmate recaptured after removing pants, running

— Authorities in Lonoke County say they have recaptured an inmate who removed her pants and then fled from a doctor's office where she had been brought for treatment.

The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office says it started around 2:20 p.m. Sunday when 23-year-old Alicia Dawn Ballard was taken to Sherwood Urgent Care in Lonoke to be treated for a complaint of a medical problem.

Ballard's shackles were removed at the office during the examination. According to a news release, she then "removed her pants" and "slammed the door in the Detention Officer's face" before running to a nearby residence in only her T-shirt and underwear.

Police say the resident allowed Ballard to use the phone and gave her some clothes before Ballard took off again. She was picked up by a woman driving through the area who started to take Ballard to the Lonoke Police Department after Ballard acknowledged that police searching the area were looking for her.

According to the release, Ballard then jumped from the vehicle and ran to a residential area. She was found hiding in bushes shortly after 3 p.m. and returned to the Lonoke County jail.

Ballard, who was arrested initially on drug charges, now faces an additional charge of second-degree escape.
