Armed passenger blamed in crash

An unidentified man intentionally drove his vehicle off the road to escape from an armed passenger early Sunday.

The victim, whose name is not listed in North Little Rock police arrest reports, was at 605 E. Broadway when an unknown man got into the front passenger seat of his car and indicated he had a gun.

The man told the driver to take him to McCain Mall. The driver said “he feared that he would be shot if he attempted to flee” from the suspect and drove off on Interstate 40 East, according to reports.

When he was near the North Hills Boulevard exit, he intentionally drove off the road and crashed in a ditch.

The driver ran away. Police responding to the scene found Kevin Martin, 49, of Jacksonville still in the car at 1:30 a.m. and arrested him.

Martin was charged with first-degree false imprisonment, a felony, and booked at the Pulaski County jail, where he remained in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
