Southwest Airlines to experiment with Little Rock-to-Orlando flights

— Southwest Airlines will now offer direct flights from Little Rock to Orlando, Fla., the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport said in a statement Tuesday.

The flights will be available Feb. 15-April 13 and are aimed at travelers heading to spring break destinations.

"We're extremely grateful that Southwest will be adding this new opportunity for our passengers," T.J. Williams, director of air service development at the airport, said in a statement. "We hope demand for direct service to this popular family destination will lead to the schedule being extended."

While the flight is currently temporary, it will be an experiment to gauge the popularity of the route, said airport spokesman Shane Carter.

"This is a trial run in which Southwest is looking into how popular this destination is," Carter. "And hopefully it will be able to sustain and become a permanent part of the schedule later on."

The airport has offered temporary direct flights in the past, with one to Destin, Fla., in 2011 aboard Vision Airlines, Carter added.
