White County man arrested for kidnapping after car chase

A car chase ensued Monday night after White County sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a kidnapping, authorities said Tuesday.

White County officers responded to a call to Foxchase Road, west of Searcy, about 8:30 p.m. after being told that a man had forced a woman into a brown Jeep at gunpoint and fled, police said.

Deputies got behind Jeep and tried to stop it, but the driver, identified as Deonte Turner, 22, refused to stop, the sheriff's office said. The chase led officers through several Searcy streets and some residential lawns, deputies said.

Turner eventually exited the vehicle while it was in motion near College and Park streets, authorities said. After running from police, Turner was found lying in tall grass and was taken into custody about 8:45 p.m.

Police said Turner is being held on several charges, including kidnapping, felony fleeing, possession of a firearm by certain persons, possession of a controlled substance, simultaneous possession of a firearm and domestic battery.

Turner is being held at the White County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
