LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Claims Commission has agreed to a $1.5 million award to the family of a 67-year-old man who was shot and killed by a juvenile released from state custody.
The award announced Wednesday for the family of Maurice “Beau” Clark Jr. still has to be approved by the Legislature in its session that starts next month.
In a written finding, the commission said Clark’s family is due the payment for pain, suffering and mental anguish for Clark’s “unnecessary and wrongful death.”
Clark was killed in 2009 when the juvenile and three others invaded his home and the youth fatally shot Clark.
Department of Human Services workers had objected to the youth being released on grounds that he was involved with a gang and pledged to engage in violent acts.
