Head-on collision with truck kills teen

— A 19-year-old driver from Booneville was killed Tuesday when his Jeep crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a truck, authorities said.

Arkansas State Police say it happened as John Daniel Phillips was driving a 2003 Jeep west on Arkansas 10 about 5 miles east of Danville in Yell County.

Shortly before 3 p.m., the Jeep crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound Freightliner truck head-on, according to a preliminary report.

Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene about half an hour after the collision.

The truck driver, identified as Victor T. Scrivner, 34, of Grapevine, was taken to Chambers Hospital in Danville with unspecified injuries.

Phillips was the 526th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
