JONESBORO Police in Jonesboro were alerted to a property with more than a dozen bicycles in a basement, which might be a chop shop for stolen bikes.
But officials said Monday that they weren’t sure about the origin of the bikes, and the number found is greater than recent reports of stolen bicycles.
Officers say many people may simply not call police when a bike is stolen.
The bikes — some of them in pieces and without serial numbers — were found in the basement of a rental property on West Huntington Avenue.
The Jonesboro Sun reported that the bikes and a can of spray paint were taken into evidence.
A maintenance worker at the property called police after the owner found the bicycles.
