LITTLE ROCK Authorities in Searcy are looking for a man who stabbed a woman and then raped her 12-year-old daughter before fleeing the scene.
Brittany Eacret, spokesman for the Searcy Police Department, said it happened about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment at 2001 Quality Drive.
Eacret said the mother was stabbed multiple times, including at least once in the neck, and has been hospitalized with injuries that may be life-threatening.
Police say the mother was attempting to stop the man from raping her 12-year-old daughter when he attacked her. He then raped the girl and fled on foot, police said.
The mother and the girl then went to a neighbor's residence to call for help.
Eacret said the mother had just met the man, but that he had been invited into the residence before the attack occurred.
Eacret said police have identified a "person of interest" and were working Wednesday to find him. She declined to release his name or the names of the victims.
No arrests have been made. The case remains under investigation, Eacret said.
