Head start: Why wait for New Year’s Eve to enjoy drinks and
entertainment? The weekend will be much less crowded and many clubs, bars and restaurants will still have musical acts. For
instance, The Afterthought, 2721 Kavanaugh Blvd., will host BFlats (The Doctor Band) at 9 p.m. Dec. 28, followed by Butterfly, featuring Irie Soul, at 9 p.m. Dec. 29. Cover charges for each are $7. Call (501) 663-1196.
NEXT MONTH Take the lead: And they’re off.
Horses and riders will launch out of the starting gate Jan. 11, when racing season opens at Oaklawn
