Home Depot — Most of the stores in this national chain offer two Saturday workshops at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and a Sunday workshop at 1 p.m. Subjects range from various home maintenance solutions to preparing a home for the holidays.

Other in-store learning opportunities include monthly Do-It-Herself workshops for women and sessions for kids ages 5 to 12 on the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon.

Ace Hardware — This national hardware store offers interactive project videos, step-by-step how-to guides, painting tips, lawn and garden advice and more on a wide variety of projects in the Tips & Advice section of its website.
