Fort Smith hunts man on gun, battery charges

— A firstdegree battery warrant was issued Friday for a 23-yearold man accused of shooting an Oklahoma man early Thursday in Fort Smith, according to Fort Smith police.

Investigators identified Adam Eugene Lane as a suspect in the shooting of 19-year-old Christian Michael Davis of Arkoma, Okla., who was shot once in the abdomen during an argument over a disabled vehicle, according to a police news release.

Lane also is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The incident began when Davis, along with Derek Young, 21, of Fort Smith and Court Cossey, 19, also of Arkoma, tried to start Young’s truck that was disabled and parked in a lot at 2419 Towson Ave. about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The three had been drinking for several hours, Sgt. Daniel Grubbs said in the news release.

Three men, identified as Lane, Darren Lee Bohlman, 28, and Joe Michael Jones, 32, emerged from a garage on the lot and began arguing with Davis, Young and Cossey.

Davis, Young and Cossey then left to get some gasoline to start the truck. When they returned about 2 a.m. Thursday, Lane, Bohlman and Jones approached them again and accused Davis, Young and Cossey of theft. As they argued, Lane pulled out a chrome-colored semiautomatic handgun and shot Davis once in the abdomen, Grubbs stated in the news release.

Davis was taken to a local hospital and his injuries required surgery.

Meanwhile, Young and Cossey identified Bohlman and Jones to police detectives. When the investigators interviewed them, Bohlman and Jones said they did not know the shooter.

Bohlman and Jones were arrested Friday and held without bail in the Sebastian County jail. Each was charged with hindering apprehension and petition to revoke a suspended sentence.

Lane could be armed and should be considered dangerous, Grubbs said in the news release.
