State colleges and universities are facing yet another year of tuition increases and faculty and staff salary freezes. Last year, colleges were forced to make difficult budget decisions. Some laid off employees. At others, faculty and staff didn’t receive raises for the first time in decades. The state’s largest scholarship program, the Academic Challenge, was unavailable for the incoming freshman class. Tuition also rose more sharply than in years past. Without increased funding, students face tuition increases and many faculty and staff face another year without raises.
