— Authorities are investigating after a Little Rock man was hit in the back of the head in a shooting that one of the attackers later admitted was supposed to be directed at someone else, police said.

Isaac Tyler, 20, told investigators the shooting started about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when he was on the passenger side of a vehicle that stopped in the 2800 block of West 13th Street to buy marijuana, according to a police report.

Three men reportedly then came out from between nearby houses and began shooting at the vehicle. One man was said to have an AK-47.

Tyler was struck in the back of the head and the driver — who is identified only as A1 in the report — sped off to take him to the hospital.

"[Tyler] stated that while on the way to UAMS one of the suspects called [the driver] on the phone and advised that [they] were mistaken for someone else and that they were not the intended targets," police wrote in the report.

The driver reportedly dropped Tyler off at UAMS Medical Center and then left the scene.

Doctors told police that Tyler was struck by a small piece of metal in the back of his head, but it did not penetrate his skull. The injury was not considered life-threatening.

No arrests have been made.

We could use more upstanding citizens like this who are willing to apologize when they shoot the wrong person.
