A Christmas Day collision on Arkansas 36 in Faulkner County killed two and injured four, the Arkansas State Police said Wednesday.
A 2002 Pontiac Sunfire lost control a little after 3 p.m. while heading north on an icy Arkansas 36, state police said in a crash report. The Pontiac slid into the southbound lane, hitting the front of a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Pontiac then slid into a ditch on the road’s east shoulder, coming to rest facing north, state police said. The Chevrolet slid into a ditch at the opposite shoulder and came to a rest facing south, the report said.
Anastasia and Cloe Meredith, ages unknown and both of Pangburn, were passengers in the Pontiac and were killed in the crash.
The injured were: Billi Meredith, 21, of Pangburn; Jonathan Haddock, 24, of Cabot; James Vanoven, 31, of Rose Bud; and Chalia Forsberg, 32, of Rose Bud. Billi Meredith and Haddock were in the Pontiac, while Vanoven and Forsberg were in the Chevrolet.
The vehicles were traveling in sleet, and the roads were icy at the time of the wreck, state police said.
Anastasia and Cloe Meredith were the 536th and 537th to die in accidents on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary reports.
