Hector receives $10,000 after fire

— Officials in Hector said they’ve received $10,000 in community donations after a former elementary school was destroyed by a fire.

Hector Superintendent Walt Davis said local businesses and churches have chipped in after the Dec. 13 fire. The school building also served as a food pantry, and all canned goods were destroyed in the blaze.

Davis told the Russellville Courier that the school has now completely restocked the food pantry, thanks to the donations.

School administrators said the fire affected a former elementary school building being used as a computer lab and for other classroom space, as well as the food bank.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
