Simple strategies save seed for the songbirds

By The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

This article was published December 28, 2012 at 11:08 a.m.

People who feed wild birds commit their time and money to keep their feathered friends happy and nearby. For most it’s a labor of love, writes Jerry Butler in HomeStyle.

One way to help cut costs is to discourage other greedy critters from mooching the bird’s dinner.

Raccoons, possums, rats and skunks can eat more birdseed in a single night than a yard full of songbirds in a month.

So how can you save the seed for the songbirds? See tomorrow’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for simple strategies to do just that.

You did not mention the species that consumes the most birdseed of all; probably more than racoons, possums and skunks combined. Squirrels.

I'm interested to see your strategies and if they are as effective and inexpensive as what I have employed for years.
