Nashville to fast-track ID badges

— School officials in Nashville said that all school employees in the district will have standardized identification badges in the coming weeks.

The badges were already in the works, but school officials told The Tennessean that they are moving more quickly to make and distribute them in the wake of the mass shooting this month at a Connecticut elementary school.

The ID tags are already required by staff and students at middle and high schools. Now, they will be required for all staff at elementary schools — including teachers, cafeteria workers and custodians. Students at elementary schools won’t have to wear the badges.

Officials say the shooting spurred them to review safety procedures, and that process is still ongoing.
