CADC sets energy-assistance application days

The Central Arkansas Development Council on Monday announced “mass intake days” during which it will take applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

The days, scheduled for Jan. 7-11, will be held in Clark, Columbia, Hot Spring, Lonoke, Ouachita, Pulaski, Saline and Union counties, the nonprofit agency said.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program helps households with home energy and heating bills. To be eligible, households must meet income guidelines and furnish proof of all household income for the month prior to applying, the agency said.

People who have received Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program forms in the mail do not need to attend the “mass intake days,” the agency said.

In Pulaski County, the mass intake periods are set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 7 and Jan. 8 at the Arts and Crafts Building of the Arkansas State Fairgrounds, 2600 Howard St. in Little Rock. The first 600 people will be seen each day, the agency said.

After those two days, applications will be accepted at at these places and times:

  • Arkansas Workforce Center of Jacksonville, 2 Crestview Plaza. Applications will be accepted on a walk-in basis only from 8 a.m. to noon Thursdays and is limited to the first 50 customers, the agency said.
  • Arkansas Workforce Center of Little Rock, 5401 South University Ave. Walk-in applicants will be accepted from 8 a.m.-noon Monday-Wednesday and is limited on the basis of staff availability, the agency said.

In Clark County, applications will be taken from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Clark County Fairgrounds Extension Homemakers Building, U.S. 67 South in Arkadelphia.

After the mass intake day in Clark County, applications will be accepted at the following locations and times:

  • CADC Arkadelphia Senior Activity Center, 1305 N. 10th St. from 1-4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays. More information is available at (870) 246-9871 for more information.

In Hot Spring County, applications will be taken beginning 1-4 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Malvern Community Center, 1800 W. Moline St.

After that applications will be accepted 8 a.m.-noon Mondays through Wednesdays at the Arkansas Workforce Center of Malvern, 1735 E. Sullenberger Ave. (501) 337-8401 has more information.

In Union County, applications will be taken beginning 8 a.m.-noon Jan. 9th at theTAC House, 1101 N. West Ave. in El Dorado.

In Lonoke County, applications will be taken beginning 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 9th at the Lonoke Community Center, 1355 W. Front St.

After that, applications will be accepted at the following locations and times:

In Saline County, applications will be taken beginning 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 10th at the Gene Moss Building in Tyndall Park, 913 E. Sevier in Benton.

In Columbia County, applications will be taken from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 10th at the Jimmie Red Jones Community Center, 231 S. Frederick St. in Magnolia.

In Ouachita County, applications will be taken beginning 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 11th at the Carnes Park, Teen Town Building, 955 Adams St. in Camden.

Regular Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program applications will also be taken Jan. 7 in Calhoun County (more information at (870) 798-2457); Dallas County (more information at (870) 352-8894); Montgomery County (more information at (870) 867-0151); Pike County (more information at (870) 285-2312).

Applicants for the assistance must meet income guidelines. For example, for a single-person household, monthly income must be below $1,481. The income eligibility limits are set at 60 percent of the state's median income level, the agency said.

To apply for assistance, one must take along proof of income for the previous month for all household members 18 and older; proof of child support; proof of unemployment for those 18 and older; proof of Social Security, retirement, pensions, workman’s compensation or disability; proof of utility allowance; and if no income, proof of how bills are paid. Also required are social security numbers and birth dates for all household members. More information is available by calling local CADC offices.
