Icy patch causes crash fatal to one

— A Malvern man died and another man was injured after a patch of ice caused a Saturday morning crash in Hot Spring County.

Charles Grayer, 36, of Hot Springs, was headed east on U.S. 270 near Bailey Hill at 7:59 a.m. when his car hit a patch of ice while trying to handle a curve and lost control, according to Arkansas State Police crash reports.

Reports said Grayer’s car went into the westbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by Thomas Hanley, 66, of 824 Fairview St. in Malvern.

Grayer was taken to Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs.

Hanley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hot Spring County coroner.
