Winter weather advisory set for two NW Arkansas counties

By ArkansasOnline

This article was published December 31, 2012 at 10:09 a.m.

Madison and Franklin counties in Northwest Arkansas are under a winter weather advisory Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Light sleet and freezing rain is expected in the higher elevations of those counties until 4 p.m., the weather service said in a 9:30 a.m. advisory.

Sleet and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are expected, and the wintry precipitation could accumulate on roads.

Streets in the highest elevations in the advisory area have been reported as slick in places. The wintry weather is also knocking out power, and light icing on trees and power lines are expected to continue to strain the power grid, the weather service added.
