Stokes, Merritt join student-services staff

RUSSELLVILLE Arkansas Tech University filled two vacancies in its Office of Student Services at the beginning of the new year.
Kristy Stokes joined the staff as associate dean for student wellness, while Marissa Merritt was hired as coordinator of marketing and special events.
Both of their appointments were confirmed by the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees during its December meeting.
Stokes has worked in higher education for seven years at Arkansas State University, Louisiana Tech University and the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. She isa licensed professional counselor.
A graduate of Arkansas State University, Stokesholds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. She also earned two master’s degrees at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary.
In her new role, Stokes will oversee the health and wellness program for Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff, as well ason-campus counseling services and testing and disability services.
Merritt joins the Arkansas Tech Office of Student Services after working in the media relations office for the Arena Football League for the past year-and-a-half.
Her duties with the AFL included a variety of publicity initiatives and planning special events.
Merritt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Arkansas, where she served as president of university programs and led the planning, promotion and execution of student-oriented events.
At Arkansas Tech, Merritt will coordinate student-center operations. She will also aid in the promotion of special events, such as Homecoming and Family Day.
