— Officials in Garland County said rainwater has been leaking into a courts building and is endangering legal records.

District Court Administrator Jason Lawrence told the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record that the basement in the Garland County Courts Building has leaked several times during periods of heavy rainfall.

He said several documents have had to be dried out after the basement has flooded.

The basement includes storage for district court and juvenile court records. Lawrence said no court documents have been destroyed but some records “get significantly wet.”

He said the leaks happen despite sandbags that are placed in front of the basement doors.

Garland County Judge Rick Davis said he wants the county to repair the basement to stop the leaks as soon as possible.
