A group of Thoroughbred horses — sleek, magnificent, four-legged beasts mounted by diminutive jockeys — breaks out of the starting gate at the beginning of a race at Oaklawn Park. Little more than a blur to the betting spectators who cheer them on, they eat up the furlongs, their hooves kicking up dirt as they gallop toward the finish line.
