LITTLE ROCK Three suspects indicted in a sweeping investigation into drug trafficking and corruption in eastern Arkansas are now facing additional charges, federal authorities said.
Marcus Thompson, 38, of Marianna, and Demetrius Colbert, 36, of Helena-West Helena and Marianna, were each charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a drug trafficking crime after a federal grand jury returned superseding indictments late Wednesday. Kedrick Daniels, 33, of Marianna, Arkansas, was charged with possessing four firearms in connection with a drug trafficking crime.
Thompson was also charged in the superseding indictment with possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.
The three men were arrested last year as part of Operation Delta Blues, a two-year investigation that culminated with 70 people - including five law enforcement officers - being indicted.
"The fact that additional charges have been filed in a superseding indictment emphasizes what I said in October of last year --- this is an ongoing investigation,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas Christopher Thyer said in a statement. “The federal authorities didn't enter into this matter lightly and they will not have a premature exit strategy. We are in it for the long haul and will follow the evidence in the pursuit of whatever rightful charges may flow."
Five of the defendants have pleaded guilty. One defendant, Milton Johnson, remains a fugitive.
