LITTLE ROCK A 52-year-old Des Arc man admitted leading a drug conspiracy in central Arkansas in pleading guilty Wednesday to federal charges.
Norman Berry was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he entered the plea and acknowledged organizing the conspiracy and distributing between 5 and 15 kilograms of methamphetamine, federal authorities said.
“We are committed to work together in this district to dismantle drug trafficking organizations operating in our communities,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas Christopher Thyer said in a statement. “... Citizens
have another drug dealer removed from plaguing their streets with drugs for a very long time.”
Berry was one of 31 defendants indicted in March 2010 in Operation Evil Eye, an investigation into methamphethamine, marijuana and firearms trafficking in Prairie, Lonoke and Pulaski counties.
Twenty-seven of the defendants entered guilty pleas, two received pretrial diversion, one had his charges dismissed and one case is set for trial.
