LITTLE ROCK Light snow was mixing with rain in northern parts of the state Friday, but forecasters said no significant accumulation was expected.
Officials with the weather service said some areas reported a dusting of snow, though roads remained only wet because the temperatures were staying above freezing. In Little Rock, the precipitation was limited to a chilly rain.
The minor shot of wintry weather comes three days before a system Monday that has more potential for causing travel problems across the state.
The weather service said Friday that a front today will usher in arctic air over the weekend. High temperatures Saturday and Sunday will top out in the 40s with lows Sunday in the teens and lower 20s.
A system will then move in Monday morning from the south, dropping snow and sleet in northern and central Arkansas, the weather service said. Rain and freezing rain is possible in the south.
"The rush hour drive could be tricky across much of the state," the weather service said in a bulletin posted Friday morning, adding the system could turn into "a significant winter weather event."
