LETTERS

— Faults of Democrats

Re the letter from Sharon Williams of Little Rock: First, as I see it, the media is on a constant campaign to tie any act of violence to the Tea Party, when in truth, I believe, none exist. Not true of the Occupiers.

What is wrong with the Democrats is their efforts to discredit anyone who makes a disagreeable word against them. They refuse to argue on substance.

Third, inquiries about Barack Obama are about finding truth and are continually shut down from every angle. If you want to be informed, turn off CNN, Fox and MSNBC and watch CSPAN.

Get ready for a battle

Citizens, we are about to lose our country. Are we ready to live in subjugation to an authority over which we have no control, no voice, no rights, no standing? Is that what we want to give our children and grandchildren? Is that what our relatives fought and died for? Then, no problem. All we have to do is keep doing the same thing we’ve been doing. Otherwise, we are going to have to get up off the couch and actually do something.

Our last election was won by a guy who had charisma. Boy, that’s really worked out. Religion is under attack. Freedom is under attack. We are under attack. Common sense dictates that when one is under attack you either run or fight back. I choose not to run.

Find a group of like-minded people and get to work. Vote. Ask friends at work or in the neighborhood to vote. I know the choices appear to be lousy, but at least those who vote retain the right to complain. Prepare for the unexpected. Our lives will change this year.

Think I’m crazy? No problem. I could be wrong. But, what if I’m not?

Get ready now.

Other side of the coin

After reading Bob Waters’ recent letter about the Koch brothers, may I assume that the millions contributed by labor unions to Democrats is the other side of the coin and equalizer?

Just wondering.

The truth set him free

In the Voices’ letter section, a cruel writer told a mother that her gay son was going to Hell and recommended that she read the Sodom and Gomorrah story. From my view, that sure was some dumb advice to tell that mother.

To those contesting my earlier letter stating that if a father can prevent it then he wouldn’t allow his son to be stripped naked and humiliated while carrying a torture device he is to be nailed to and die on-I know that millions of fathers have sadly lost their sons to wars, accidents, sickness or however. But still, if the fathers can prevent it, then it wouldn’t happen, according to assumed logics.

One writer wrote that God wanted a blood sacrifice to pay for Adam’s sins. So God turned into Jesus to be the sacrifice he demanded. That’s like saying God whipped himself. Nobody should have to pay for somebody else’s sins. How are we to learn that our trespasses will cost us if someone else pays for our trespasses?

I have read the Bible and, indeed, seeking the truth did set me free.

The beliefs of billions

After reading Ned Robitzer’s letter stating that his “common sense” ruled there could have been no Christ and no crucifixion, I felt compelled to reply.

About 2 billion people, myself among them, believe this to be fact. He allowed himself to be nailed to the cross to atone for the sins of believers and nonbelievers alike.

The only qualifiers he placed on salvation were the acceptance of an eternal forgiving God, the repentance of sins, and to forgive transgressors as he did on that cross.

Will he prejudice Robitzer for his disbelief?

I should prefer to think not, as he forgave with his last bit of human breath.

Did his life give mankind an unquestionable moral compass? History would dictate that, on the whole, the answer is an unimpeachable yes.

His Belichick nitpicks

I’m not a Bill Belichick fan or detractor, but I can’t see where Wally Hall came up with the idea that Belichick allowed the New York Giants to score in the last minutes of the Super Bowl.

I did not see any Patriots standing

at ease or lying on the ground to allow Ahmad Bradshaw to score. Bradshaw seemed to have had more of a problem with scoring than the

Patriots defense did.

Hall then went on to say that Belichick’s lack of personality would be debated “(But not in this space.).” In the next four paragraphs, Hall did just that, attacking Belichick’s personality and dress.

Hall then stated that Belichick expected “Tom Brady to drive the Patriots 80 or so yards in less than a minute with one timeout.” What else would any coach do? That’s what quarterbacks do!

I have no idea what Hall was trying to say with this column. It is similar to his columns on Bobby Knight (who I’m no fan of in the least) that, in my opinion, are personal attacks

and smears. Hall should grow up or go do something else.

Also, if Hall wishes to spend a column each Christmas and New Year’s sending wishes to coaches and his friends, he should buy cards instead. We want sports writing, not personality clashes.

Time, money wasted

I am writing about the terrible roads in Arkansas, mostly on 67/167 North from Jacksonville to Cabot.

There are many potholes in the road and the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department fixes them with asphalt, which deteriorates in two to four weeks, making the potholes worse than they were to begin with. I have a small car and the covered potholes are tearing up my front end.

The department spends many man hours and thousands of dollars to fix these potholes. There must be a better solution than using asphalt. Cementing these holes would be a permanent solution.

I hate to see thousands of dollars being spent fixing these potholes with no solution.

Idea’s time has come

I agree with Kay Schroeder’s letter about publishing the names of products made in Arkansas.

Also, I would like to see tags displayed in a prominent place-on the label and the product-of all products produced in America.

I would gladly pay more for the safety and quality of such products.
