LITTLE ROCK — North Little Rock running back Altee Tenpenny is having a pretty good start to 2012.
After committing to Alabama while attending the program's Junior Day on January 28, the senior-to-be has now been selected to play in the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, North Little Rock coach Brad Bolding confirmed.
The school announced Tenpenny's selection in an e-mail release Monday afternoon.
Bolding said that he and Tenpenny got the news via phone call Monday morning.
Tenpenny, who sat out all of his junior season with after breaking his fibula in a preseason scrimmage, is expected to be one of the top running backs in the state this season, receiving offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Auburn among others before committing to the Crimson Tide.
The 5-11, 205-pound Tenpenny was the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Metro Sophomore of the Year after rushing 147 times for 1,121 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2010. He's rated as a four-star recruit by Scout.com.
Bolding said that Tenpenny's injury has fully healed and that he's just dealing with stiffness in the affected area. He'll be allowed limited contact through spring drills.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is regarded as the top high school football all-star game in the nation, with a majority of the country's top prep football talent playing in it, and some announcing their college commitments during the game. The game will be played in San Antonio in January of 2013.
