COMMUNITY EVENTS IN THE RIVER VALLEY AND OZARK AREA

— TODAY Special Guests at Church GREENBRIER - Representatives from Renewal Ranch, a faith-based rehabilitation program for men with addictions located in Perry County, will speak and The Dooleys of Conway will perform at Bono Baptist Church at 10:45 a.m. The church is at Arkansas 285 North and Burkett Flat Road in Greenbrier. The public is invited.

MONDAY Chamber Music Recital CONWAY - The Hendrix College Music Department, in conjunction with Hendrix College Special Events and the Department of Arkansas Heritage, will sponsor Persistence of Melody, a recital of chamber music performed by cellist Felice Magendanz-Farrell, French hornist David Renfro and pianist Naoki Hakutani at 7:30 p.m. in Reves Recital Hall at Hendrix College. Chamber Closing RUSSELLVILLE - The Russellville Chamber of Commerce office will be closed Monday in recognition of Presidents Day. The Chamber will reopen Tuesday.

TUESDAY Mardi Gras Dinner HEBER SPRINGS - St. Francis Episcopal Church in Heber Springs will hold its annual Mardi Gras Dinner from 5-7:30 p.m.at the Parish Hall, 20 Woodland Cove Drive, just off Arkansas 110 across from the Heber Springs Sports Complex. The menu will feature shrimp or chicken gumbo, red beans and rice, salad, French bread, dessert and assorted beverages. Dine-in or takeout options will be available. Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for children 7-12. Children younger than 6 may eat free. Proceeds will benefit the St. Francis Episcopal Church Ministries and Outreach. THURSDAY Community Lenten Luncheon CONWAY - Church Women United of Faulkner County will sponsor the 2012 Community Lenten Luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 1075 Hogan Lane. The event will include a soup lunch, along with devotions, music and prayer. The community is invited.

SATURDAY Seed Swap RUSSELLVILLE - The third annual Russellville area Seed Swap will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 501 S. Phoenix. The free event is sponsored by the Conserving Arkansas’ Agricultural Heritage organization and is open to the public. UPCOMING Macaroni and Cheese Competition CONWAY - A gourmet macaroni-and-cheese tasting and competition to benefit Help for Abuse Victims in Emergency Need will be held from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Conway Country Club. Local restaurants and schools will compete for the title of Conway’s Favorite Comfort Food, and attendees will sample the macaroni and cheese and vote for their favorites. Tickets, at $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under, include a beverage and may be purchased at the door or by calling (501) 327-1701.

Audubon Society Meeting PETIT JEAN MOUNTAIN - The Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Stables Classroom at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. The program will be a nature production called Magician in the Air. Refreshments will be served. Membership renewals are due at $10 for singles or $15 for a family. Author, Literary Discussion at Hendrix CONWAY - Kate Gale, an author, poet and opera libbrettist, will discuss her work as part of the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Programs in Literature and Language at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in Reves Recital Hall at Hendrix College. Pancake Breakfast Benefit CONWAY - Pancake Palooza, to benefit Conway Cradle Care, will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 4 at Stoby’s, 805 Donaghey Ave. The menu includes pancakes; sausage; and milk, coffee or orange juice. Tickets are $5 per person; children under 5 may eat free. Conway firefighters and police officers may eat free upon showing their badges. Adult Summer Softball RUSSELLVILLE - The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will hold an organizational meeting for Adult Summer Softball at 6:30 p.m. March 5 in the Hughes Community Center. To enter a team in the summer softball league, a representative will need to be present. Registration will begin March 12 and end at 5 p.m. March 23.
