STEUBENVILLE, Ohio Rick Santorum said President Barack Obama is pushing a radical environmental agenda that unwisely limits energy production and turns its back on science.
Santorum told voters in eastern Ohio on Monday that science is on the side of those who want to aggressively produce more oil and natural gas in America. He said the notion of global warming is not climate science but “political science.”
Santorum said Obama and his allies want to frighten people about new oil-exploration technologies so they can collect money and turn it over to politicians to win elections “so they can control your lives.”
Ohio’s GOP primary is March 6.
Santorum also planned several campaign appearances later Monday in Michigan. Voters there go to the polls on Feb. 28.

Obviously this nut job hasn't read about the Bush II administration threatening scientists into withholding information about global warming and corporations buying a scientist to put out faulty information claiming it isn't so. The evidence is all around us. It is real. Probably partly man made and partly a natural cycle, but it is real. Why are "conservatives" so "liberal" about destroying the environment ? Money, of course.

Ah Santorum, what beastly ideals slouch toward the polls in November? As Nietszche wrote: "Faith means not wanting to know what is true." and "...that faith moves no mountains but puts mountains where there are none."
Here are some thoughts by the late Christopher Hitchens on Santorum and the GOP: This is what the Republican Party has done to us this year: It has placed within reach of the Oval Office a man who is a religious fanatic and a proud, boastful ignoramus. Those who despise science and learning are not anti-elitist. They are morally and intellectually slothful people who are secretly envious of the educated and the cultured. And those who prate of spiritual warfare and demons are not just "people of faith" but theocratic bullies. Anyone who cares for the Constitution has a clear duty to repudiate this wickedness and stupidity.

Ol' Brown Foam is clearly disconnected from reality... Our president is not a Christian (hinted at), public educational standards are bad, prenatal care leads to abortion, birth control is abortion, abortion is murder, Climate Change is fake... is there a limt to the insanity that the GOP will demonstrate?
Of course, all this idiocy is powered by religion, which in and of itself is a belief in the unproven and unknowable. Why would a guy who professes a deep belief in the supernatural be any different from the way he is behaving now?
He is totally and completely disconnected from reality, including science.

Science works with fact(s) not magic and mythology. Science can always revise its theories based on fact(s).
Religion is stuck in a mythology that is 2,000 years old and even older and is unable to change any of its precepts, except the small ones and the undeniable ones, like a sun centered solar system... though lots of scientists had to be burned at the stake for saying the earth was not the center of the solar system before the church finally gave in to fact.
Now non-scientists deny Climate Change, yet the evidence is all around us, all around the world. You can deny fact but that does not change the fact.
The most amazing thing is people who can believe in unseen spirits, demons and invisible, all powerful beings who do nothing but judge, find it hard to believe things which are supported by fact.
I suppose living in the world of make believe is always easier than living in a real world going "south" because of greed and the stupidity of denial.

Don't worry about Santorum. He is going down. While it has not been widely reported, his wife lived with an abortion doctor for years before she left him for Santorum. You can bet Romney will start stirring that up soon. Some people are supporting Santorum as a means of stopping Romney and getting to a brokered convention. If nobody can get to the magical number needed to win on the first ballot, you are looking at Mike Huckabee or Chris Christie at the head of the ticket and Gov. Susana Martinez of New Mexico as VP. I certainly agree with this article's title. The global warming issue has been made political by Republicans under the sponsorship of oil companies, coal companies and the wealthy who see their short term profits in peril if global warming science is accepted and acted on in a manner consistent with it's importance to humanity. There was doubt among scientist at first about global warming and man's contribution to it, but scientists doubt everything at first. The difference between them and politicians is scientist realized how important this issue was and applied themselves to checking it out. By today 95% or so of climate scientists around the world agree that the earth is warming and man is a major contributor to it. Anyone who gives right wing political thoughts on this issue equal weight with climate scientist is foolish.

This article is really about Santorum questioning Obama's faith calling it "some phony theology, not a theology based on the Bible."...And when the media asked him about it Sunday, Santorum lied and said he was talking about Obama's "radical environomentalists' and his "world belief that elevates the earth above man." environmental belief. The news media went back and replayed the clips and Santorum was talking strictly about religion and there was no mention of the environment and Santorum then complained about "gotcha journalism". Santorum said Obama was a Christian but Christianity had many stripes and he did not agree with his stripe in reference to the environment. All the other news and the AP news titles ran... 'Santorum questions Obama's 'world view," not faith"... But ADG titled it about global warming and they have radically edited this article since yesterday.

Did you know Rick Santorum’s wife, Karen, had a six-year affair with an abortionist named Tom Allen?" anti-abortion activist Elizabeth Reichert writes in the letter. "This abortion doctor was 30 years her senior! In fact, he delivered her as a baby! The only reason they broke up was that Karen wanted kids -- while Tom was busy killing them."
.
"When she moved out to go be with Rick, she told me I'd like him, that he was pro-choice and a humanist," Allen told Philadelphia City Paper. "But I don't think there's a humanist bone in that man's body."

T6,
While I think anybody who denies global warming at this point is ignorant, I wasn't intending to throw slime at Santorum; I was just pointing out a fact and speculating as to what may happen in this crazy Republican nomination process. Too many Republicans are unhappy with the choice between Romney and Santorum. Some of the Democrats are becoming overconfident. The Koch brothers may be evil, but they are not stupid. They are out there trying to figure out how to beat Obama, and neither Romney nor Santorum seem up to the task. A new face paired with the female, hispanic governor of New Mexico makes this a more interesting race. The Democrats are not slinging any mud at Santorum now; they would love to have him as the nominee. It is the pro-life people and the Romney people who want to bring Santorum down. I am just pointing out this fact.

I guess the right wing nuts are going to argue that all the travel books are written by liberals who are lying about the condition of the glaciers. Well, the rightwingers better hope that it is cooler in Texas this summer or the Republicans are going to lose in Texas in November also.

Reason
What someone does or believes in the twenties has no bearing on what they do now. You know kinda like Obama had homosexual lovers and did cocaine, heroin and marajuana when he was young but doesn't necessarily mean he still is gay or does drugs now. Although it's been said he has. What Karen Garver did BEFORE she became Karen Santorum is relevant HOW?
How do you figure Mrs Santorum had an abortion?
( permalink | suggest removal )
jackalope says... February 21, 2012 at 2:30 p.m.
It's widely known that Karen Santorum had an abortion (and a late-term one at that). I'm all for her right to do so, but it's a little hypocritical of her husband to campaign against abortion rights knowing that he utilized those rights to save his wife's life. She developed a life-threatening infection during the 19th week of her pregnancy (2nd trimester). She and her husband both agreed to high doses of antibiotics, even knowing that these would induce labor and the fetus was too young to survive outside the womb, effectively inducing an abortion. Rick Santorum did tell the Inquirer at the time that “if that had to be the call, we would have induced labor if we had to,” under the understanding that the fetus was going to die anyway and intervening would save Karen’s life.

Reason says... February 21, 2012 at 2:53 p.m.
T6: It is relevant because he is a hypocrite! Even Ron Paul said that life began at conception but if his granddaughter was raped, he being a gynecologist, would take her to the emergency room and take care of it. And when he realized what he had said... He said, "I realize there are many gray areas on this issue." And Ron Paul is right! But when you mandate a law... It puts a woman's life or a 10 year old child's life at risk! Abortions should be RARE! But just because one believes that it should not be illegal does not make them pro-abortion. Men and women serve in the military but that does not make them pro-war.

There is a difference in an attempt to undergo surgery to save the life of her child with procedures a woman undergoes to end the life of her child. It's petty for people to politicize the loss of a child for a straw man argument. Doing all you can to prevent the loss of a child you wanted is nothing like planning the execution of a child you don’t want. Their child was not going to live regardless, yet Karen Santorum risked her life to take the pregnancy as far as possible.
According to Nancy Pelosi's pro abortion stance, she said the GOP wants women to die. I would say this proves her wrong. Since he did everything that could be done to save baby and mother.

And what about so-called "partial-birth abortion"? Partial birth abortions are only done for one reason -- a woman is losing a pregnancy that is often desperately wanted. The procedure is done as a way to give the woman and her family a body to bury. And yet the GOP keeps campaigning to put up more and more roadblocks in the way of this life-saving procedure, pretending that there are 6 - 8 month pregnant women out there who just decide "Oops, no I don't think I want to have this baby anymore."
-
Rick Santorum said he would have induced the labor if needed, knowing the child would die. That is an abortion, whether you choose to call it such or not. As I've said, I completely respect and agree with their right to make that decision, but it is the height of hypocrisy to suggest that other women be denied the right to make the same choice he and his wife made. The Santorums are the embodiment of the saying "The only moral abortion is my abortion." Google that phrase for a huge list of anecdotes from abortion providers regarding providing procedures to stringent anti-choice women. In their minds, their abortion is the only one that was for a "good reason" and every other woman seeking one is using abortion as a weird form of birth control.
-
People repeatedly using abortion as "birth control" is a GOP myth. It's an expensive procedure, and while it's the absolute safest surgical intervention a woman can have these days, there are inherent risks, as with any surgery. Almost no one just has an abortion instead of using birth control, and if they do, those people are very very few and far between.

In any event, Santorum is not going to beat Obama. He is not mainstream. Only the far right types believe that global warming is a hoax. People across the country are noticing the changing weather patterns. Glaciers are melting. Beetles are eating up pine trees in the west because the winters have not been cold enough to kill them off. Texas was just a boiling pot last summer. The East Coast has had one of its warmest winters ever. Only a few right wing kooks are totally unconcerned about the environment.
While many people do not support gay marriage, they still do not approve of gay bashing which seems to be one of Santorum's favorite hobbies. It also is difficult to pull off a holier than thou attitude on abortion when your wife lived in luxury for a number of years with a wealthy abortion doctor.
Santorum can't beat Obama and probably won't get the nomination. He may get enough delegates to help Huckabee win the nomination.

All these accusations have been denied by CRU spokepersons, and the CRU's researchers stated that the emails had been taken out of context and merely reflect an honest exchange of ideas.[9][10]
The mainstream media picked up the story as negotiations over climate change mitigation began in Copenhagen on 7 December, with Fox News and some other media outlets giving the controversy increased coverage.[11]
.
Eight committees investigated the allegations and published reports, finding no evidence of fraud or scientific misconduct.[14] The Muir Russell report stated, however, "We do find that there has been a consistent pattern of failing to display the proper degree of openness, both on the part of CRU scientists and on the part of the UEA."[15][16] The scientific consensus that global warming is occurring as a result of human activity remained unchanged at the end of the investigations.[17]
.
In response to the controversy, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) released statements supporting the scientific consensus that the Earth's mean surface temperature had been rising for decades, with the AAAS concluding "based on multiple lines of scientific evidence that global climate change caused by human activities is now underway...it is a growing threat to society."[13]

Obama's half sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng explained to Jodi Kantor of the New York Times: "My whole family was Muslim, and most of the people I knew were Muslim."

T6,
Who is "they"? While there are many Muslims in Indonesia, Obama was mostly raised by his Christian grandparents (from Kansas, one of whom was descended from Arkies) in Hawaii. The right wing nuts all claimed that Obama was a secret Muslim in the last election cycle and that we were all doomed to be taken over by hostile nations if he were elected. You conspiracy theorists are losing credibility. He just seems to be a fine American.

T6,
We always can count on you to take quotes out of context in your effort to spead lies. If you read the whole article written by Jodi Kantor, it is about how Obama was exposed to a number of religions, but is a Christian. The article was "A Candidate, His Minister and the Search for Faith" published by the New York Times on April 30, 2007. In fact the first seven words following your quote were "But Mr. Obama attended a Catholic school..." The article also discusses the impact of his Baptist and Methodist grandparents and how Obama attended a Christian school in Hawaii. T6, you are just a slimeball.

There are many websties available to provide your formal rebuke. As to specific names try this one: Peter Gleick. His initial work as a global warming extremist has been fully refuted by many in the scientific community. (Do a "peter gleick discredited" Google serach) Again, the data is based on such a miniscule slice of pie no credible scientist would ever call it definitive. Can you name one credible scientist who has made such a declaration?

Out of context, HUH? DID Maya Sotoreo-NG SAY what I posted or not? I can post the article where she did say it.
Obama's own campaign said he wasn't a "practicing Muslim"
The Los Angeles Times reported that Barack Obama’s campaign seems to be modifying its earlier affirmation that “Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian who attends the United Church of Christ in Chicago.”
In a statement to The Times, the campaign offered slightly different wording, saying: “Obama has never been a practicing Muslim.” The statement added that as a child, Obama had spent time in the neighborhood’s Islamic center.
According to the New York Times Obama can recite the Arabic call to prayer with a first rate Arabic accent. He also call the it "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset."
If Obama only went to a Muslim school for just a 2 couple of years and only went to Muslim prayers only occasionally, he sure did learn the language and the Call to prayer awfully fast.
OH, BTW, Pop,Best not to open your trap UNLESS you know what you're talking about.

I went to Catholic school for 6 years, but I am a Protestant. Obama actually went to a Muslim school in Indonesia for a couple of years, but spent more time attending Christian schools. Obama says that he is a Christian and attends Christian church and has a Christian wife. Assuming that your allegation that he is a secret Muslim is correct, he nonetheless has ordered the execution of Bin Laden and many other enemies of the United States. If he is a secret Muslim, he is our kind of secret Muslim. (P.S. Michelle has a cousin who is a Rabbi but that does not make her Jewish.)

I believe they can extrapolate 800000 years ago because they have bored ice samples in Antartica and can analyze the CO2 in a gas chromatograph, the same way archeologists can look at rock strata. You shouldn't question it .... you use the same data to show that there were other periods of global warming BEFORE THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. The question is are we making a natural cycle worse with 8 billion people all wanting cars and fires and coal fired electrical generating plants to provide light and heat.

Global warming may self regulate to global cooling bringing on a mini-ice age. At our current population density, WE ARE SCREWED if we lose our Northern states farm land.
How could it happen? The melting water seeps under the Greenland Ice Sheet between the ground and the ice, lifting it enough to start a slide towards the ocean. A large enough fresh water shock may break the thermohaline circulation.(google it)

We should exploit the earth, and the people who do it best will and should get filthy rich, no pun intended, smart-ass liberals. Too much ozone and particulate in the atmosphere? Build a tinted bubble over your home and purchase equipment to filter the air. Can't afford it? Tough, that's how a free market in a free country works. Losers are the earth's real pollution, not industrialism. I read that in an Ayn Rand book. I'm sick of all you weenies who think we are all in this together. May the best arsenal come out on top. Hey Mikeey - Do you think any of that data was contaminated in any way? Was there any extrapolations based on hypothesis? How does the trend data stack up to the Earth's age? Answers to these few questions will show the flaws in the data leaving any credible scientist to say it was speculative at best.
Hey Populist - Be careful about talking Santorum out of context on his thoughts on a college education. In a nutshell, he's 100% correct. Lots of kids have about as much business going to college as you have sitting beside me in a duck blind. To prove my point, check out college remediation rates and the percentage of kids who start college but never finish. THAT's where the majority of waste is in a college education. Had those kids (college dropouts) started in a trade school or a job that provided OJT the cost of a college education would be substantially lower and more effective to boot. This country DOES NOT need more education. What we need is education reform and politicians like Rick Santorum who are not afraid to tell the truth even when it's not politically correct.

Packman,
People should choose education which is appropriate for their skill set and available jobs. While there are unscrupulous little colleges which promote expensive programs and falsify the hiring rates of their graduates, education is the key to people becoming successful individuals. I'm not just talking about a college degree. People of all types and situations in life should always strive to enrich their lives with opening their minds to new things. I've said this until I am blue in the face, but it bears repeating. Wealth and education are closely tied together. The richest countries are the best educated, the richest states are the best educated, and the richest counties in Arkansas are the best educated. While everybody can point out rich people who are not well educated and people with advanced degrees who are not rich, overall the market pays more for people who have more knowledge and skills. You cannot expect the economy in Arkansas to improve without significant financial investment in education and an attitude adjustment with respect to the importance of education. You need to have the teachers and equipment and children and parents who are willing to work hard. It is not easy getting my boys to study and do their work; they'd much rather watch tv and play video games.

Yes. The Republicans have just become too far to the right that they are out of the mainstream. They are against the environment, gays, birth control, education, and the middle class. Smart centrists such as Michael Bloomberg and Olympia Snowe either leave the party or public service. If McCain had picked Olympia Snowe as his running mate instead of Palin, McCain very well might be President today. These Republicans try to stay in power by spewing hatred and intolerance. I hope that they get their butts whipped in 2012 and that a new crop of young Republican governors have some sense and will be able to fill the void of talent and common sense in the Republican Party. Washington is just a mess with the extremes on both sides fighting and spewing hatred. I am very sad that Olympia Snowe is retiring.
