— Authorities responding to a call early Wednesday found a woman clutching her stomach and suffering multiple stab wounds.

The incident at an apartment at 10002 Shannon Drive in Jacksonville spurred a police chase into North Little Rock, where a man was arrested, accused of stabbing his wife multiple times.

According to a Jacksonville Police Department incident report, Ronique Wright, 30, was stabbed multiple times in the torso and was in surgery at a local hospital for serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.

She told officers that she and her her husband, Cleveland Wright, were having an argument when he took a hunting knife and began stabbing her, according to the report.

Cleveland Wright told officers that he had blacked out during the argument with his wife, and that she pulled a knife out of a junk drawer to use on him.

He said he blacked out during the fight and the next thing he remembered was Ronique Wright covered in blood next to the refrigerator, saying "it didn't need to go this far."

He told officers he was driving himself to a counseling service when officers pulled him over after a chase.

North Little Rock police arrested Wright, according to Jacksonville police spokesman April Kiser. Scanner traffic indicated police at one point reached speeds of 90 mph, though NLR police department spokesman Brian Dedrick said he could not immediately confirm that.

Dedrick said authorities spotted the white Ford sport utility vehicle on 18th Street in North Little Rock. The driver refused to stop, leading police on a chase on Batesville Pike into Sherwood and then onto Highway 161.

Cleveland Wright is charged with first degree domestic battery.

Things sure have changed. It use to be that from Washington Avenue north to Eighth street was downtown. Now I see 18th Street is downtown.
