— “Community Celebration of Black History Month” is the theme for the February exhibit at the Arkadelphia Arts Center (the former Royal Theatre), 625 Main St. The center will feature photographs from early Clark County, antique items from the past century, an Underground Railroad quilt-pattern exhibit, a sorghum-making exhibit, “Music through the Ages,” visual art by local artists, and memorabilia from local African-American celebrities. Books will be on display by local authors, and book signings are scheduled throughout the month. The center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Softball Registration HOT SPRINGS - The Hot Springs Parks and Recreation Department will take individual registrations for adult draft league softball until 5 p.m. March 1. Players can sign up for $30 at the Parks and Recreation administrative office, 111 Opera St., Suite A. Games will be played on Thursday nights at Kimery Park. Each player will receive a jersey. The draft will occur at 6 p.m. March 1. The first 48 players will be assured a spot. Payment must be received for a player to be included on the master draft sheet. TODAY Movie Night HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE - The Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association will hold a movie night at the Coronado Community Center and present the second of three classic comedy movies this winter. Doors will open at 4:15, and the movie will begin at 5. Tickets will be $3 at the door. There will be refreshments for purchase, including drink specials, hot dogs, popcorn and candy. Special Olympics Basketball Tournament ARKADELPHIA - A Special Olympics Basketball Tournament and Individual Skills Competition will be held today at Ouachita Baptist University. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. in the Sturgis Physical Education Center, followed by the games and activities. An awards ceremony will take place at noon. Admission is free. SATURDAY 5K Run/Walk BENTON - Saline Memorial Hospital and Everett Buick GMC will hold their fourth annual The Beat Goes On 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Proceeds will assist underprivileged cardiac patients with medication expenses, as well as help fund new heart and vascular technology in Saline County. The 5K will start at Saline Memorial and take participants through downtown Benton. Preregistration is $20, and registration the day of the event will be $25. A long-sleeved race T-shirt is included. TUESDAY Healthy Heart Seminar HOT S PRINGS - In recognition of American HeartMonth, the Heart and Vascular Institute at National Park Medical Center will host a Healthy Heart Seminar at 2 p.m. This free event is open to the public and will be held in the NPMC Fordyce Room on the first floor of the Ouachita Professional Building, 1900 Malvern Ave. The seminar will include guest speakers, free blood-pressure and bloodsugar screenings, giveaways, door prizes and refreshments.
