Former Hog, Super Bowl champ Petrus honored at Capitol

LITTLE ROCK — Mitch Petrus will tell you he's not a super hero, but on Wednesday afternoon at the State Capitol Building in Little Rock, he got a hero's welcome.

Former Arkansas Razorback and current New York Giants offensive lineman Mitch Petrus was honored by the Arkansas Senate on Wednesday afternoon to commemorate his victory in the Super Bowl earlier this month. Petrus is currently in his second season as a member of the Giants after the team drafted him in the fifth round in 2010.

The former Arkansas guard and current reserve lineman for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants was honored by Lt. Gov. Mark Darr and the Arkansas Senate for his team's victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XVLI earlier this month.

Petrus, a former fullback and offensive guard at Arkansas, is currently in his second season in the NFL, being taken in the fifth round by the Giants in the 2010 NFL Draft. He's played in 17 games with three starts, all of which coming this past season.

The Carlisle native spent the morning signing autographs in Darr's office for a gathering of officials and fans, and was later honored before the Senate Assembly by leading them in prayer. A spokeman for Darr's office added that Senator Eddie Joe Williams, who represents Petrus' hometown, presented Petrus with a Senate citation commemorating his accomplishments.
