Officers say LR man, 32, shot in chest

— Police say a man was shot outside a residence Sunday after returning from a nightclub in downtown Little Rock.

At 3:26 a.m., Jose Manuel Mendoza, 32, of Little Rock was shot in the chest outside a residence on Larry Drive, a report said.

The report filed Sunday said that Mendoza was in critical condition. Little Rock police Lt. Dana Jackson said he did not know Mendoza’s condition Monday night.

Timoteo Pereira, 23, told officers he and Mendoza were standing outside the residence beside a vehicle when someone began to shoot at them from the frontpassenger window of a black, late 1990s Lincoln, the report said.

Mendoza told Pereira he had been shot and had heavy bleeding from his chest, the report said. Pereira drove Mendoza to St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, where he was taken into surgery for life-threatening injuries, the report said.

The report said police were unable to find a crime scene at the address. Pereira told police he could not give a description of the suspect because of minimal lighting on the street.
