Forecasters expect severe weather in Arkansas Sunday evening

Arkansas power failures as of 7 p.m. Sunday.

The counties in red are under a tornado watch until 12 a.m., Monday.

      

9:15 p.m. update

Lodge Corner law enforcement reported a tornado at 8:30 p.m. at the junctions of Highways 11 and 165.

Arkansas, Bradley, Calhoun, Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Jefferson, Lincoln, Monroe, Prairie and Woodruff remain under a tornado watch until midnight.


8:45 p.m. update

At 8:35 p.m., a trained weather watcher spotted a tornado on the ground 1 mile west of Burks. The tornado caused power lines to fall and catch grass on fire along US-165.

Tornado warnings for Arkansas and Monroe Counties continue until 9:15.


8:35 p.m. update

A trained weather watcher spotted a funnel cloud north of Star City, and another spotted a tornado 4 miles northwest of DeWitt.

The tornado warning for Arkansas, Monroe and Jefferson has been extended until 9:15 p.m.

There are still multiple reports of damaging hail along the path of the storm system.


8:20 p.m. update

Lonoke, Monroe and Prairie remain under a tornado warning until 8:45 p.m., and Arkansas, Cleveland, Jefferson and Lincoln remain under a tornado warning until 9 p.m.

Woodruff is under a tornado warning until 8:30 p.m.


8:10 p.m. update

A funnel cloud was reported in England, Ark., at 7:50 p.m. Trained weather watchers also spotted a tornado 6 miles west of Devalls Bluff.

An amateur radio operator reported a tornado at 7:59 p.m. 2 miles north of Slovak, and another reported two funnel clouds 10 miles southeast of Hazen.

The NWS canceled the tornado warning for Pulaski County.


7:57 p.m. update

Fordyce law enforcement reported a tornado in Fordyce at 7:26 p.m. There are reports of damage to two houses on Highway 8 and trees down. Another tornado was reported at 7:40 p.m. 5 miles west of Coy, Ark., between Coy and Humnoke in Lonoke County, according to Central Arkansas UHF Club watchers.

Arkansas, Jefferson, Lincoln, Lonoke, Prairie and Pulaski Counties are under a tornado warning until 8:15 p.m. Monroe, Prairie, Woodruff Counties are under a tornado warning until 8:30 p.m.

Grant, Jefferson, Pulaski and Saline Counties also remain under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8 p.m.


7:35 p.m. update

Tornado warnings have been issued for the following counties until 8 p.m.: Arkansas, Jefferson, Lonoke, Monroe and Prairie, and also for Cleveland, Dallas, Jefferson and Lincoln until 8:15 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Grant, Hot Spring, Jefferson, Pulaski and Saline until 8 p.m., and also for Jackson, Monroe, Prairie, White and Woodruff until 8:15 p.m.

There have also been several reports of large hail in Grant, Jefferson and Ouachita Counties.


7:05 p.m. update

The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:45 for the following counties: Lonoke, Prairie, Pulaski and White.


6:43 p.m. update

The NWS has issued a tornado warning until 7:15 or the following counties: Calhoun, Dallas and Ouachita. Another tornado warning has been issued for Grant, Hot Spring and Jefferson Counties until 7 p.m.


6:35 p.m. update

Clark, Dallas, Garland, Grant, Hot Spring, Jefferson and Saline Counties remain under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:15 p.m.

The NWS canceled the initial severe thunderstorm warning for Faulkner, Lonoke and Pulaski Counties, however these counties are not in the clear yet. Keep checking back for more updates.


6 p.m. update

The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a tornado watch until midnight for the following counties: Arkansas, Bradley, Calhoun, Cleveland, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Faulkner, Grant, Independence, Jackson, Jefferson, Lincoln, Lonoke, Monroe, Ouachita, Prairie, Pulaski, Saline, White and Woodruff.

Clark, Dallas, Grant and Hot Spring Counties remain under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:30 p.m.


12:30 p.m. update

The National Weather Service in Little Rock expects severe weather to push through most of Arkansas later this afternoon and evening, with eastern parts of the state at the greatest risk for severe weather.

The NWS predicts a slight risk of severe weather for most of central Arkansas, "east of a line from Salem (Fulton County) to Clinton to Mount Ida to Lewisville," according to Little Rock meteorologist John Robinson. The greater risk of severe weather will be in eastern Arkansas, falling east of a line from Corning to Lonoke to Rison to Hamburg, Robinson said.

Robinson said the severe weather will develop late this afternoon and increase in the evening. Tornadoes are a possibility, and the storms will move quickly, around 50 to 60 mph. Damaging winds and hail are also expected. The NWS expects the storm system to leave the eastern edge of the state around midnight.
