Funeral arrangements have been set for a correctional officer who was stabbed to death at an eastern Arkansas prison last week.
Cpl. Barbara Ester’s funeral will be held Saturday at Lee High School in Marianna. The Arkansas Department of Correction says the employee trust will cover the funeral expenses and provide $3,000 to her family for miscellaneous expenses.
Authorities allege inmate Latavious Johnson stabbed Ester Friday at the East Arkansas Regional Unit after she confiscated a pair of unauthorized tennis shoes from him.
Johnson was serving a life sentence for the death of his father. He has been moved to the maximum-security Varner Unit in Grady.
Correction officials say Ester’s killing is the first death of an Arkansas prison guard at the hands of an inmate since 1995.

I would not hesitate to execute this animal. He's not worth keeping alive and feeding for thirty years.
