EL DORADO Workers with Union Pacific are cleaning up after 80 barrels of oil spilled in south Arkansas when a contractor for the railroad accidentally ruptured an oil line.
A Union Pacific Corp. spokesman tells the El Dorado News-Times that the contractor was loading rock and ballast Wednesday morning when the rear tire of a heavy piece of machinery sunk into the mud and struck a plug on a pipeline.
UP says the spill was contained in the hole that had been dug by the contractors and that the oil was quickly vacuumed up. On Thursday, crews planned to replace any contaminated soil with fresh soil.
The El Dorado Fire Department says the crude oil line belongs to Lion Oil and that the spill posed no environmental hazard.
