Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/JASON IVESTER --01/05/12-- A tour group passes between galleries inside Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, during the "Greatest Hits" tour.

— Officials in Bentonville said hotel and restaurant tax collections have increased sharply as more people visit the city to tour the new Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

The Bentonville Convention and Visitors Bureau said hotel tax receipts were up 23 percent in November. That’s when the museum, created by Wal-Mart heiress Alice Walton, opened.

The Benton County Daily Record reported that the restaurant tax collections in November were up 12 percent from the year before. It’s the largest November total since the Bentonville Advertising and Promotion Commission started collecting the data seven years ago.

Officials said more than 120,000 people have visited the museum in its first 100 days.
