Signatures submitted for casino measure

— A professional poker player has turned in thousands of signatures in an effort to put a casino legalization proposal on Arkansas' ballot this November.

Nancy Todd on Friday submitted 10,615 pages of petitions that she says have 80,373 signatures backing the casino proposal. The proposed initiated act needs at least 62,507 signatures from registered voters to qualify for the ballot.

Todd's proposal would bring casinos to Crittenden, Franklin, Miller and Pulaski counties. Hers is one of two casino proposals vying for spots on the ballot.

Friday is the deadline for groups to submit petitions for their proposed initiated acts and constitutional amendments. Backers of a proposal to legalize medical marijuana submitted their petitions on Thursday.

The secretary of state's office will conduct a rough count before verifying the signatures.
