Shortly before midnight Friday, officers responding to a domestic disturbance at 6609 Whippoorwill Lane in North Little Rock spoke with Sherita King, who said she drove to the residence to drop off her boyfriend so he could retrieve money he owed her. But when her boyfriend, identified as Lloyd Pope, 34, came out of his residence, he started arguing with King, an arrest report states.

King told police she then tried to drive away, but Pope pulled her out of her vehicle and began punching her. As she attempted to get away “he began to choke her with his hands, restricting her breathing to a point she could barely breathe,” the report states.

King saw a neighbor down the street arrive home and began running to the neighbor’s house. She told police “the entire way to that residence Pope was striking her in the face with a closed fist and trying to keep her restrained,” the report states.

While officers were speaking with King at the scene, Pope walked out from behind a nearby house and was arrested. He was charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member and third-degree domestic battery.

Pope was held at the Pulaski County jail Saturday night. Bail had not been set.
