LITTLE ROCK — A federal judge who weighed in on a long-running desegregation case last year will soon take over as the chief judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
Brian Miller will start his 7-year term as chief judge on Monday. He replaces Judge J. Leon Holmes, whose term is ending.
Holmes says he’s ready to hand the job over to Miller, who recused himself from the desegregation case last year.
Holmes says the chief judge is sort of the liaison between the court and administrative side of the judiciary.
Clerk Jim McCormack says the chief judge position falls to whichever judge has the most seniority, provided that he or she is not yet 65 and has not previously held the job.
