Murry’s hears Sound of Music

— The “hills” of Murry’s Dinner Playhouse, 6323 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, will be alive with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, Tuesday-Sept. 1.

Lauren Cupples plays the novice Maria, whose life is transformed when she’s sent by her Mother Abbess (Kelley Ponder) to be a governess to the seven children of military martinet Captain Von Trapp (Don Bolinger, also the choreographer).

Satia Spencer, Nisheedah Golden and Monica Clark-Robinson play the nunnery “brain trust.” Memory Rose Apata plays von Trapp’s eldest daughter, 16-going-on-17 Liesl, with Garrett Whitehead as her would-be boyfriend, Rolf. Andrew Ponder, Stephanie Schoonmaker, Nathan Clay, Mallory Cain, Laura Beth Killingsworth and Anne Marie Coy are the other Von Trapp children.

Director Glen J. Gilbert plays amoral impresario Max Detweiler, with Emory Tyson Molitor as the Baroness. Eric Harrison plays Admiral von Schreiber; Greg Robinson and Candyce Hinkle play von Trapp’s faithful retainers, Franz and Frau Schmidt, respectively. Michael Heavner is the musical director.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday; 11 a.m. for Sunday and Wednesday matinees (July 25, Aug. 1 and 8; no evening shows those Wednesdays), 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Tickets (including buffet and show) are $31 Sunday evening-Thursday, $33 Friday-Saturday, $29 Sunday and Wednesday matinees, $20 for children and those (with confirmatory ID) who are 16 going on 17.
