Hairspray set in Pine Bluff

— Hairspray will have a sort of Pine Bluff homecoming this week as the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., Pine Bluff, stages the musical at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The setting of the show (music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Whittman, book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on John Waters’ 1988 film) centers on a ’60s TV rock ’n’ roll dance show starring high school students that is based on Pine Bluff native Buddy Deane’s show, which aired for seven years in Baltimore.

Tickets are $18-$22, $5 for students. Call (870) 536-3375 or visit the website, ArtsScienceCenter.org.
