Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/BENJAMIN KRAIN --7/25/2012-- Flames from a wild fire tower up a mountain in Yell County near Ola. The Yell County Sheriff's Office started evacuating more than 2,000 people who live in the area on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said early Thursday that a 1,400-acre wildfire that prompted evacuations in Yell County has been fully contained.

Arkansas Department of Emergency Management spokesman Chad Stover said the wildfire was contained early Thursday with no injuries reported. A vacant barn and a mobile home were burned.

Scott Moore with the Yell County sheriff's office said late Thursday morning that the Arkansas Forestry Commission still has crews on the scene both on the ground and in the air.

While firefighters battled the blaze Wednesday, AFC spokesman Sheila Doughty said about 150 people had been evacuated.

Stover said that residents were allowed to return to their homes Wednesday night, and the Red Cross closed its shelter Thursday morning.

The fire burned as the Arkansas Forestry Commission elevated the fire danger to extreme across much of the state Wednesday. Thirty-nine of Arkansas’ 75 counties were at extreme fire danger, and the wildfire risk remained severe in the rest of the state.
